EIC Greenhouse Gas programme: Help the European Innovation Council support you with new green business opportunities
Since its creation in 2017 the European Innovation Council (EIC) and its community have been a catalyst for change and innovation. Hundreds and hundreds of EIC beneficiaries joined us on this journey towards a more innovative and competitive Europe. Now the EIC is excited to offer you the opportunity to come on a new journey with us: one that can help us create new green business opportunities for you, while contributing towards Europe’s goal of becoming the world’s first climate-neutral continent.
Discover the new EIC Greenhouse Gas (GHG) programme and share your input with us to make it the best we can!
By 2050, Europe aims to become the world’s first climate-neutral continent. Climate action is at the heart of the European Green Deal – an ambitious package of measures ranging from cutting greenhouse gas emissions, to investing in cutting-edge research and innovation. To be able to adhere to the goals set out in the European Green Deal, the European Innovation Council wants to leverage on the energy and spirit of the Europe’s largest community of innovators. How are we going to do that? By offering all EIC-beneficiaries the opportunity to join the new EIC Greenhouse Gas programme, EIC GHG for short.
With this new programme we will offer you, as EIC beneficiary, the opportunity to participate in co-creation events to develop optimised, cost-effective products/services to reduce GHG emissions. Strategic partners, such as corporates, industrial associations, regions in carbon transition and others will be involved as your possible counterparts. On the other hand, we will also offer you the support services, expertise and guidance you need to significantly reduce the greenhouse gas emissions of your company
To further shape the programme and tailor-fit it to your needs, we need your help. We put together some questions that will help us to streamline these new services, co-creation events and business opportunities under the EIC GHG programme. Pick up that digital pen and go to the survey:
Your feedback will ensure that we can offer a programme which best fits the needs of Europe’s most innovative minds and businesses that call the EIC Community their home. There’s a world full of opportunities out there for eco-minded innovators. Join the EIC on this green journey and together we will reap the benefits!
Background on the EU Green deal and greenhouse gas reduction
The European Green Deal for the European Union (EU) and its citizens resets the Commission’s commitment to tackling climate and environmental-related challenges as this generation’s defining task. It is a new growth strategy that aims to transform the EU into a fair and prosperous society, with a modern, resource-efficient and competitive economy with zero net emissions of greenhouse gases by 2050 and where economic growth is decoupled from resource use. It also aims to protect, conserve and enhance the EU's natural capital, and protect the health and well-being of citizens from environment-related risks and impacts. At the same time, this transition must be just and inclusive, leaving no one behind.
Carbon dioxide (CO2) is the primary greenhouse gas emitted through human activities, but other gases (such as methane, nitrous oxide and others) also contribute to the “greenhouse effect” of trapping heat in the atmosphere. Worldwide, total C02 emissions increased from 2 billion tons per year in 1900 to 36 billion tons in 2017, of which around 6 billion tons in Europe. This represents an average per capita footprint of 4.8 tons per person worldwide.
