On 2 July 2020 1.00-3.30 pm (CET) the European Innovation Council (EIC) will host the last ePitching with Investors before the summer. This month’s session will revolve around IoT and Smart Cities, with seven EIC-funded SMEs going head-to-head. Investors from Breega Capital, Indico Capital Partners, SAP, United Ventures, SET Ventures, Tengelmann Ventures, Primoglio SGR will attend the session, rate the pitches and engage in one-to-one’s, a newly added feature to the ePitching with Investors. In 2020, over 25 billion devices worldwide will be connected to the internet. We’re not just talking about phones, tables and laptops, but anything from household appliances to lamps. All these connected devices are called the Internet of Things (IoT). One of the many applications for IoT revolves around Smart Cities; using data and algorithms to implement smart policies and increase the quality of life. Think of automatic sensors in parking lots, thereby reducing traffic circulation, or thrash cans that will signal when they are full, making for more efficient garbage collection routes. The possibilities are truly endless. The following seven EIC-backed SMEs all developed applications and innovations that make use of IoT and are applicable to Smart Cities, one way or another:
Cinfo's Tiivii technology is a game changer in live streaming. With just some standard cameras and a broadband connection, the Spanish company is able to create a professional production using their cloud AI platform. Close ups, ball tracking, player tracking, advertising, virtual merchandising, paid stickers, VIP seats...they provide the tool for redefining the economy of sport clubs, music venues and even education.
UK-based Crypto Quantique is a deep technology company that has developed a transformational cybersecurity technology, using the most advanced techniques in cryptography and quantum physics. Their technology is designed to ensure that device security becomes foundational and end-to-end IoT security becomes standard practice.
Finnish Goodmill Systems Ltd. is selling a mobile broadband vehicle routing systems, which is using several mobile networks in parallel to provide users with extremely reliable connectivity from the vehicles to application servers. The system consists of routers, remote management system (Over The Air) and a gateway server software.
Hiboo, based in France, is the data platform to pilot your field's operations. They aggregate data from multiple sources providing you with strategic information to optimize your processes and unlock new business models.
Klepsydra is a Swiss SaaS company that offers high performance edge data processing software for embedded systems. Klepsydra reduces development times by 50% and speeds up data processing by 40%. Their primary market is the space industry and the startup has close relations with ESA and NASA.
Disruptive new deep tech invention Synx Hive, developed by Norwegian Nornir AS, is a new network kernel that enables the Real Time Web. Real Time Web is an AI driven web network where IoT and robots become part of the web. The network can also monetize data across domain and url and enable trade on data between web pages and online services.
Spain’s OpenNebula is building the Next Generation Edge Cloud Platform to build and manage an On-Demand Edge Cloud using resources from bare-metal providers. It’s used to implement different types of cloud deployments, from clouds tuned to address the demands of a niche market to clouds optimized to manage the virtualized resources in the data center. Telefonica, Crytek and Booking.com are some examples of users.
