The European Commission has been helping the Solar Impulse Foundation to identify efficient solutions: 1000 clean, efficient and profitable solutions. After years of collaboration, the institutions decided to streamline the process for EIC-funded projects applying to the challenge. Discover how your EIC-funded solution can obtain this green label and what are the advantages of this recognition.

Since the launch of the Solar Impulse Efficient Solution label in May 2018, over a thousand companies have submitted their application, and 321 clean, efficient, and profitable technologies have received the award so far. The process of applying for the label is fairly straightforward and free of charge, especially for EIC-funded projects.

Apply to the Solar Impulse Efficient Solution Label here.

How does it work in practice?

The EC program criteria is equivalent for 4 out of 5 Efficient Solutions Label Criteria without further need of Solar Impulse Experts’ evaluation (credibility of concept, scalability, client’s economic incentive and seller’s profitability). As a result, only the Environmental Benefits criterion will be evaluated by the independent external Experts to deliberate on the Solar Impulse Efficient Solution Label’s attribution.

If your project:

  • Was granted funding or Seal of Excellence under the EIC Accelerator Phase II program (former SME Instrument II) within the past 5 years;
  • Fits in the SIF Label eligibility scope (more information here);
  • And obtained minimum rating of 3,5 out of 5 by the EC evaluators to each key criterion (Impact, Excellence, and Implementation);

The information you have previously used in your EIC Accelerator Pilot Phase-2 proposal can be used to speed up the application process for the label and, as an additional step, you will be required to respond to two questions regarding the Environmental Impact of your Solution (approx. 30-45 min).

What’s in it for you?

The aim of this equivalence with the EIC Accelerator Phase 2 Programme is to recognize the projects selected by the EC as a part of the Solar Impulse Foundations 1000 Solutions portfolio, to provide visibility, credibility, and to further help them connect with potential stakeholders such as investors, clients, companies, and cities. The 1000 clean solutions challenge involves more than a certification. The labelled solutions will have exclusive access to partnership opportunities, new networking events and be part of a global movement with experts in the field.
