Open Call - EIC ePitching with Procurers: Parkering Malmö
The European Innovation Council (EIC) is organising an EIC ePitching with Procurers event alongside Parkering Malmö, a municipality-owned company from Malmo, Sweden, on 30 September 2021 (from 12:00 to 14:30 CET). During the session, EIC-beneficiaries are invited to pitch solutions within the topic of smart cities, specifically regarding data analysis on parking spots occupation.
Apply here until 27 August 2021.
Parkering Malmö is a municipal parking company, fully owned by the City of Malmö. Parkering Malmö’s purpose is to build and operate parking spots within the municipality. New parking spots are mainly built in the form of multistorey car parks in connection to developing new city districts. The city is growing rapidly, and the densification causes a need for smarter planning and a more efficient use of city space. The expected changes in the population’s behaviour relate to the means of transportation chosen by city residents (more sustainable mobility solutions) and to the need for the city to become smarter about the use of existing parking spots.
To make this optimisation possible, Parkering Malmö needs better data on the availability of each parking spot. Ideally, the company will have real time information on whether a parking spot is occupied or not. This data is primarily needed for the company’s own knowledge and decision making, but in the future this information could also be shared with the public, for example to help visitors find an available parking spot.
How will the day look?
Parkering Malmö will present their most pressing needs and current challenges. The selected EIC-backed SMEs will then get the chance to pitch their innovations and solutions. Afterwards, there is a dedicated timeslot for pre-arranged one-on-one meetings with Parkering Malmö representatives. The event will take place fully online.
Who can apply?
All EIC-backed SMEs working on innovative products or services in the field of smart cities, that are able to:
- Present solutions to detect whether a parking spot is occupied or not and deliver this data to Parkering Malmö in a well-structured manner.
As this data will be stored and analysed continuously, it should have a simple format and need minimal manual preparation before being used for analysis.
The solution should be in TRL 5-6 and should be scalable to all Parkering Malmö’s 45 000 parking spots in the future.
The EIC-funded companies will be selected according to Parkering Malmö’s needs for innovative solutions related to the challenge.
Parkering Malmö is a municipality-owned company with almost 70 employees. Their fields of work include technology, management, environment, monitoring and construction project management. The company is part of the city of Malmö and strives for the same overall goal, with sustainability in mind for local benefit. With a focus on sustainable, digital and safe parking, Parkering Malmö creates smart and efficient parking solutions for both today's needs and the challenges of the future.
Parkering Malmö's main task is to build and manage parking opportunities in Malmö, also handling rental and monitoring of parking on behalf of external property owners. The company owns nine parking facilities in Malmö and manages over 35,000 parking spaces. In addition to the parking garages that are run in-house, Parkering Malmö has approximately 65 external customers.
Cancellations will only be considered in duly documented cases of “force majeure”. Unjustified cancellation can lead to exclusion in future Business Acceleration Services events.
