We are all now spending more time online with tools that make remote work possible. Physical events are shifting to virtual events and the European Innovation Council is also adapting to more online formats. Tomorrow on 7 April 2020, from 14h00 to 17h30, an exclusive group of EIC-funded beneficiaries will gather in an online training event with a business coach to explore the full process of fundraising, present their case studies and get immediate peer to peer feedback. The whole world is currently dealing with a novel coronavirus pandemic and we all want to try to understand what the future may hold. Using computer-based models would allow us to keep up with the spread and evolution of the pandemic.
On 8 April 2020 12.00-1.30 pm (CET) six EIC-backed SMEs will have the chance to show their Agritech solutions during our EIC ePitching session. They will be pitching to investors from BayWa r.e. Energy Ventures GmbH, Capagro, Céréa Partenaire and KnowledgeHub.

The Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI) is launching a fast-track call for proposals on the development of therapeutics and diagnostics to tackle current and future Coronavirus outbreaks. The call has a budget of EUR 45 million from the EU’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme. In March 2017, three new entrepreneurs with a great background in the world of engineering and energy launched Rated Power, a start-up that wants to make solar energy the first world source thanks to its solution pvDesign. The leader of this initiative is Andrea Barber, the winner of EDP Open Innovation and participant in the 2017 edition of the Global Entrepreneurship Summit. The Spanish CEO of Rated Power is playing an important role in a technical sector, historically covered by men.
For the first time the European Innovation Council organised an Innovation Procurers Day, together with the German Association for Supply Chain Management, Procurement and Logistics (BME) and its members. During this day 9 EIC-backed innovators had the exclusive chance to pitch to innovative procurers from the Pharma industry. The event took place in Dresden, Germany on 4 March 2020 as part of the 5th Pharma Supply Chain Congress (3-5 March 2020).

AB InBev opened its doors to 32 SMEs to pitch and present their business cases at the group’s Global Innovation and Technology Center (GITEC) in its home city of Leuven, Belgium.

A team of investors from the Odense robotics cluster based in Denmark has injected DKK 80M (nearly $12M USD) into the company. This new investment supports the growth of the EIC-funded developer that describes itself as a “Robot Venture Factory”.
Natural Language Processing (NLP) has taken great strides recently. And Bitext Technology is making huge advances in this field. This year, the company funded by the European Innovation Council (EIC) have partnered with Amazon Connect to offer three new services. Bitext will implement a full-fledged conversational Interactive Voice Response in the Amazon Connect contact centre.

The EIC-funded company BotsAndUs announced a partnership with British Airways to provide a solution that will reduce travel stress by assisting all passengers with relevant information to their journey and airport stay. The robot Bill will interact with customers in multiple languages and escort them to locations such as cafes, toilets, meeting rooms and family check-in zones.
ChangeNow is organising “the largest positive impact gathering in the world”. From January 30th to February 1st, the iconic glass roof of the Grand Palais in Paris will host the first World Expo tackling world issues and presenting global solutions. 7 EIC-funded companies will be there, either showcasing or pitching their innovations during the Summit. A hand-picked number of European Innovation Council (EIC) pilot pioneers was selected to present their innovations to c-level managers of OTP Bank in Budapest, Hungary, one of the biggest banks in Europe. The EIC Corporate Day, a specially designed service to increase the possibilities to accelerate SME’s businesses, focused on new technologies and solutions for the banking sector.
10 companies funded by the EIC Pilot won a spot at the stage of the European Venture Contest Final.
The new agreement will allow the social-impact start-up to implement the Charity Round Up - a new fundraising solution.
A total of 287 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) form 31 countries have been selected for funding under the last round of the EIC SME Instrument, in the so-called Phase 1 of the programme, now known as the EIC Accelerator. The report digs into the data and challenges behind the most important and dynamic tech companies emerging from Europe’s most wanted innovation funding programme for small and medium sized businesses.
92 companies funded by the SME Instrument under Phase 2 met on 15/16 October, in Brussels, for the Welcome Days. The purpose was to bring the SMEs selected for funding together, in order to network and share experiences. From sessions focused on how to sell to public buyers, to training workshops related to large corporates, the event has tried to address the core challenges SMEs face in a cohesive way.
Travelling is a time-consuming business and there are many elements to consider before jetting off: barbaric jet lag, cramped seats, cacophonous hotel rooms, delays when it comes to flights, trains, rental cars. In the past, these concerns could only be addressed with vigorous planning but, as technology has advanced, apps have presented effortless solutions.
