The world-leading manufacturer is investing in UK robotics company Q-Bot, as part of a £3.6m Series A investment.
The past five years were the five hottest years since record-keeping began in 1880. It has become clear that the current Global Warming is caused by greenhouse gases emissions like carbon dioxide and methane. And the burning of fossil fuels by industries is the main contributor to this. But Carbon Clean Solutions Ltd. is reducing industrial CO2 emissions with an innovative technology. The company is of one of the few startups in the world specialised in carbon capture.

On 16 June 2020, 1 pm (CET) the European Innovation Council (EIC) will host an ‘ePitching with Investors’ on SaaS and ICT-solutions. With more accurate and reliable water data, crop yields on agricultural land can be improved and this information can help to fight the global food and water crisis. Through the support of the EIC-funded WATER4AGRI project, the Dutch company VanderSat developed a technology that can accurately measure the location and amount of water in the soil, anywhere in the world.

A total of 117 innovative solutions to tackle the coronavirus have been selected as winners of the European Innovation Council-led #EUvsVirus Hackathon. 22 April 2020 marks the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, the annual celebration of the environmental movement. According to the official Earth Day site, the theme for this year's Earth Day is climate action. The mission is to encourage individuals and organisations around the world to continue moving towards innovation to face the climate crisis and seize the enormous opportunities of a zero-carbon future. But while this day is a 24-h celebration, many start-ups spend the entire year going green, with innovating projects to accomplish this goal. 2 and 3 December 2020 marked the 10th EIC Corporate Day of the year. Together with Caixabank Payments and Consumer we dived into the world of fintech, inviting 24 EIC-innovators from 12 different countries to pitch their innovations.

On 9 June 2020 the European Innovation Council hosted an EIC Community Training on HR for start-ups in the process of scaling. In this session 21 EIC-funded SMEs had to chance to learn and interact with Jose Martinez, EIC business coach specialised in leadership and HR, and EIC community member Diana Špakauskaitė, HR-manager at Ruptela.
The European Innovation Council pilot's funded company InnovaFeed, specialized in the production of insect proteins, announced to have completed a round of 40 million euros, the majority in the form of capital, led by a group of investors by Creadev, the Mulliez family's fund, and Temasek, the Singaporean investment giant. These follow the historical shareholders of the company, including Accuracy partners and Olivier Duha, co-founder of Webhelp, in a total of over 55 M€ secured in 2018

ABB Electrification’s Startup Challenge, in collaboration with Microsoft and SynerLeap, is scouting for startups. Applications are now being accepted, with three winners set to each receive $30,000 for project development.
In 2018, thanks to EnduroSat, the Bulgarian Space Industry celebrated a historical moment: the first country’s CubeSat was activated in space and connected to two ground stations. This was the first space mission for EnduroSat, involving schools and universities to ensure a long-lasting educational outreach program in addition to the technical verification of all the components. This year, a new satellite from EnduroSat will lift off, and the Bulgarian startup will make history again.

The European Innovation Council Business Acceleration Services celebrates the official kick-off of the Overseas Trade Fairs 2.0 Programme and invites you to submit your application for the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2022. The trade fair will take place on 5-8 January 2022 in Las Vegas, USA.
For the very first time, the European Innovation Council organised the Coordinators’ Day virtually, meeting the companies funded by the EIC under Phase 2 in an online session. The purpose was to gather the EIC coordinators from the recently awarded projects, get familiar with the project management procedures and discover more in-depth the Business Acceleration Services.

Every year millions of tons of plastic waste end up on our streets, in our rivers and covering our forests. A large part of this waste comes from packaging. The plastic bags we use, for only a few minutes, can last as long as 15 to 1,000 years in the environment and, according to a recent study, people could be ingesting or inhaling approximately 5 grams of plastic every week. The Finnish start-up Paptic Ltd, founded in 2015, addresses this environmental challenge with a sustainable alternative to plastic films. Paptic material has all the advantages of plastic - it's versatile, reusable, light-weight, soft, but it's made of renewable raw materials and it’s recyclable.
The European Commission in collaboration with FETFX organises the second annual Future Tech Week, which will take place entirely online, from 21 to 25 September 2020. The event provides EIC Pathfinder FET projects with a unique opportunity and broad platform upon which to showcase their achievements in fields aligning with the European Commission’s priorities, including Artificial Intelligence and information technology, health and biotech, culture and society, energy and environment, and nanotech and materials. Pathfinder and Accelerator are two funding schemes proposed by the Enhanced European Innovation Council (EIC). How do these funding schemes go together?
The resolution of Virtual Reality devices on the market is just 1/100 of what the average human eye can see. This means that all visual details are lost due to heavy pixelization, which makes these products rather useless in professional applications. Varjo is the first and only company in the world to deliver human-eye resolution virtual and mixed reality devices, meeting the most demanding enterprise applications across training and simulation, design and engineering and research. With the latest funding round, the Finnish startup has raised $100 million in total.

The EIC-funded company BotsAndUs announced a partnership with British Airways to provide a solution that will reduce travel stress by assisting all passengers with relevant information to their journey and airport stay. The robot Bill will interact with customers in multiple languages and escort them to locations such as cafes, toilets, meeting rooms and family check-in zones.

On 3 and 4 June 2020 the European Innovation Council (EIC) celebrated the launch of a brand-new initiative specifically focused on corporate engagement on the EU Green Deal: The EIC Planet.tech. With the support of the members of the EIC advisory board, Jim Snabe and Yousef Yousef, the EIC Planet.tech has brought together EIC-backed start-ups/scale-ups with four large corporates (AB InBev, DEME Group, Nestle and P&G) with the objective to develop a number of impactful Proof of Concepts (PoC).
The EIC-funded company raised 19 million € in Series A financing round to deploy their breakthrough technology and take the leadership of the human-friendly third-generation AI.
There are about 36 million people in the world who are blind, and a further 216 million who live with moderate to severe visual impairments. But fortunately, innovations are now playing an important role to deliver deep improvements to their quality of life. The app Be My Eyes, for example, is connecting customers who are blind or have low vision with over 850,000 volunteers for guidance and help with tasks like cooking, finding lost items, catching a bus, reviewing mail and more. The EIC-funded solution is a game-changer, proving how innovation is fostering inclusion.
Small and medium-sized enterprises take centre stage at World IP Day 2021. This year's celebration highlights the importance of startups for growth in a post-pandemic world with the theme "IP and SMEs: Taking your ideas to market."
